The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (27 km / 17 miles) - the country’s most popular heritage steam railway, providing access to such locations as Goathland (better known as the fictional Aidensfield in the ITV series 'Heartbeat') and Grosmont, a genuine 1950s railway junction where you rest at the station cafe and visit the engine sheds and view the locomotives undergoing restoration.
Eden Camp (35 km / 22 miles) - billed as "The only modern history theme museum of its type in the world", the award winning Eden Camp will transport you back to wartime Britain.
York (64 km / 40 miles) - within the walls of this historic city you can step inside the Gothic splendour of York Minster; revel in York's Roman heritage at the Yorkshire Museum; explore Viking York at the Jorvik Centre and visit the fascinating National Railway Museum, York Castle Museum and York Dungeon.
