From the fifteenth century, with the general pacification of Portuguese territory and with the great appetite of D. Afonso V (1438-1481) for the hunting, the Paço Real estremocense (especially in winter) now houses the monarch and his numerous courts for long periods, forcing the chief warden and his family to leave the palace cyclically.

It is in this context that D. Sancho de Noronha had this noble house built for his private residence around 1450, valuing the medieval village with the most interesting façade of civil architecture in the upper area of Estremoz. This reveals a hybrid of remarkable singularity, evidencing several styles from the Mudéjar (XV century and early sixteenth century, coexisting with the Late Gothic and Manueline), the Renaissance, the Manueline or the Neoclassical.
