Opened in 1979, the S&T Museum of the State of Bahia is the first interactive museum of the
Latin America and is now part of the State University of Bahia. Promoting active exploration and arousing the curiosity of the people who visit it, its collection consists of exhibitions and experiments: in the external area, the “Praça da Descoberta”, the Locomotive 418, an AT-33 Airplane, a Clock of the Sun and an Ox Cart, as well as experimentation equipment, such as a Solar Cooker and Girotec. In the internal area, the “Pavilhão da Ciência”, two spaces deserve special mention: the Prof. Sergio
Esperidião, equipped with several interactive experiments in mechanics, electromagnetism and optics, such as the Van Der Graff Generator, the Generating Bicycle, the Casa consumption, the Inertia Train and others; and the Hall of Physics, with interactive experiments that complement the visits, such as a Bank of nails, Looping, Human cell and Periscope. The institution also has a Cyber Museum, a room with 10 microcomputers connected in a network and with Internet access (with programs available in the areas of Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, where the visitor can do research and school work) and an Auditorium for 180 spectators, ideal for showing films, lectures, lectures and other activities, and thematic rooms in the areas of Biology, Chemistry and Geology are being completed.
